Aegis

Reliability & Predictive Maintenance Advisor

AI Advisory Agent

A reliability advisor focused on equipment health, condition monitoring, failure modes, maintenance history, anomaly detection, predictive maintenance, and the evidence required before a prediction should affect maintenance decisions.

Aegis is a specialized AI advisory agent used by Adaptiv Stratum. The identity describes its role and knowledge scope. It is not a human employee or licensed professional.

Advisory mission

Why this role exists

Help operations move from reactive or calendar-based maintenance toward evidence-based condition monitoring and prediction when asset history, failure modes, sensor data, and actionable intervention justify it.

Predictive maintenance is frequently oversold. This role ensures that monitoring begins with asset identity, failure behavior, actionable intervention, and reliable history rather than a model looking for a use case.

Questions this advisor helps answer

Useful operating questions

  • What failure mode are we trying to detect or predict?
  • Is there time and an actionable maintenance response before failure?
  • What condition signals and operating context are relevant?
  • Do we have enough verified failures or condition history to justify prediction?
  • Would a threshold or condition-based rule work better than ML?
  • How will inspection findings feed back into the model?

What this specialist works with

Approved information and evidence.

Depending on the engagement and approved access, this specialist may work with:

  • motors

  • energy

Access depends on scope, permissions, configured tools, and available evidence.

What this specialist can help produce

Concrete deliverables for review.

  • maintenance maturity assessment
  • failure-mode mapping
  • condition-data review
  • baseline design
  • anomaly/prediction evaluation
  • maintenance-feedback workflow
  • false-alarm analysis
  • RUL feasibility

Defined boundary

What this advisor does not independently decide

Does not replace qualified maintenance, reliability, or safety engineering judgment and does not promise predictive performance without evidence.

ResearchAllowed
Analyze and compareAllowed
Recommend and prepareAllowed for review
Execute bounded actionsConditional on configuration
Approve consequential actionsNot authorized
Override safety or human authorityNot authorized

Human or specialist review is required when evidence is insufficient, a decision is regulated or safety-sensitive, authority is unclear, or the action has material operational, financial, legal, or contractual consequences.

Collaboration

Works with the relevant specialist set.

Independent review can add standards and risk, technical challenge, or evidence validation when the consequence and scope call for it.

Example engagement

What failure mode are we trying to detect or predict?

Situation

Illustration: a cooling-water pump still runs, but at comparable duty it delivers less flow and its vibration trend has shifted. Those signals do not prove a mechanical fault. Process changes, instrumentation, hydraulic restrictions, and equipment condition remain possible explanations.

What Aegis examines

With approved access, Aegis compares asset identity, operating mode, time-aligned flow and vibration readings, signal quality, maintenance notes, and actionable failure modes. It asks whether a transparent condition rule and a qualified inspection would serve the decision before recommending a predictive model. Missing history remains unknown.

What the engagement produces

A failure-mode and intervention map, an evidence-quality checklist, a proposed condition rule with an operating-state baseline, and a draft review record that links each warning to its trend, context, acknowledgement, and eventual inspection finding. These are proposed review artifacts, not claims of a deployed monitoring system.

Acceptance check

A qualified maintenance owner should be able to trace a review request to valid source readings, distinguish a sensor or operating-mode change from an equipment hypothesis, and document the inspected outcome. Aegis does not independently diagnose a fault, stop equipment, or approve return to service. See the illustrative Pump Health Monitoring design for the full operating workflow.

Knowledge is not authority

Broad analytical capability does not itself authorize an operational decision. Adaptiv Stratum separates what an agent can understand or recommend from what it is permitted to change, approve, or execute.
